I have always been drawn towards art and design, even as a kid. Back then, "drawing class" was my favourite subject. As the years went on, I decided to explore different career options. I completed my graduation in Economics from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. I then, worked at Siemens but my heart wasn't in it. I decided to take up an Art and Design course at Srishti School of Art & Design. And it has been a journey ever since!
During Srishti, I worked at grassroot level with artisans from Kala Raksha, a NGO based in Kutch, Gujarat. This experience changed my perspective about the creative process of art and design. I worked on creating an upcycled collection "SAV_AGE" using wastes generated by the NGO.
I then, worked at Global Desi- at House of Anita Dongre, illustrating for a kitsch collection. At Global Desi, I worked on commercial conceptual patterns; inspired by folk art and culture. I have also worked with Mineral Fashions, creating a line of contemporary prints inspired by vintage textiles. I then worked with Welspun Global Brands creating prints for Home Furnishings, particularly Area Rugs & Kids playmats for UK, EU & ROW markets. With Welspun, I had the opportunity to visit trade fairs in Germany like Heimtextil and Domotex to understand European market. I am currently working as a Textile Designer for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd for a brand called Marigold Lane.
I have been fortunate enough to win a competition and have my art digi_taal exhibited at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2013 through Talenthouse. I have also won an International Scarf Design Competition held by Printed Village a studio based in Boston, USA.
I believe my strength lies in conceptualisation and my ability to play with textures and colours. I love experimenting with different mediums as well as finding solutions using design thinking. I believe design is not merely about aesthetics but also about function.
Would love to hear from you!
